He was the annoying guy across the hall. She was the funky artist with strong opinions. They debated, they argued, they fought for their ideals. It was college, where you learn to be yourself and about life and living. Along the way somewhere he began to tolerate her and she didn’t mind him so much. The debates became a building block of communication in a blossoming relationship. They graduated and moved to Charleston to be by the beach and to have a little fun while they’re still young. They both got a job at the local animal shelter to put legs to their ideals and to share their love of animals.
I met them when I became involved with Pet Helpers after adopting my little love, Peanut. A few months later I discovered that Aldwin was actually the one who rescued her and her puppies from a dumpster on a nearby island. Since then I have called Christine and Aldwin, Peanut’s godparents. It amazes me how life connects the dots for us. I am forever grateful for my little ‘Nutty and proud to call this pair of animal lovin’, vegan/vegitarian, Peta members friends.
The wedding was bittersweet as it was a final hurrah for them in our little community of friends. Christine was accepted to Grad school in Atlanta a few weeks before the wedding so they are moving to Georgia pronto. We’ll all miss you, dear friends. Good luck in the big city!
